World Design

A good fantasy assures that the setting is as much of a character as the cast. A world you can step into.

For me, light is the best storyteller in any visual medium. Building environments off of the atmosphere I want to experience when reading has always been most successful for me when starting with the light.

Once I've created visuals that capture it well enough, I have pieces to reference when writing descriptions.

Dante's kingdom, Avonbend, had to absolutely shine. I wanted it to feel like an extension of him, a battle of potential and comfort. The cusp of dawn, or the hour before nightfall. Full of life, but haunted by ruins.

Meanwhile, Fairyland was to be absolutely lush with darkness. A foreboding but luminous otherworld. I wanted to keep playing with the enchanted forest element, but this time with a tropical rainforest vibe.

Next up was visualization for architecture, which is elaborated upon below for those interested!

Above is my first concept piece for Morrigrave, capital city of Avonbend and seat of the Mage King. Below, you will find its complementary setting, Damhnall, the capital city of Fairyland. Rather, its central palace.
